
The Yonkers Historical Society will be holding their annual meeting at the Grinton Will Library at 1500 Central Park Avenue in Yonkers, NY. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1pm on Sunday, April 27,2014, inside of the Flynn Room.
There will be a special guest speaker, Mina Crasson, who is a trustee of the Yonkers Historical Society. She should be speaking at approximately 2pm.
The featured discussion will be on the historic Oakland Cemetery, which is located at 2 Saw Mill River Road in Yonkers, NY. This cemetery began as a resting place for casualties of the American Civil War.
Eventually, other local residents were also buried here. A few of its more prominent residents are Alexander Smith, founder of the Alexander Smith and Sons Carpet Company, his daughter, Eva Smith-Cochran, and Dr. Charles Leale, who performed on President Abraham Lincoln, after he was shot.
